Hynix Property For Sale Again

Auction.com

The former Hynix plant in West Eugene is up for sale again.

Broadcom has abandoned its plan to revive the former semiconductor plant. A company spokeswoman says it no longer plans to use the site for its wireless semiconductor business. Broadcom has struggled with financial losses and debt recently. Broadcom bought the property last year and said they planned to employ about 229 people to manufacture silicon chips for cellphones in 2019.  Denny Braud is Planning and Development Director with the City of Eugene. He says Broadcom’s decision is a disappointment.
“They represented an opportunity to bring a $400 million investment in the community and create well-paying jobs and all of those things,” Braud says, “And I think the community put their best foot forward to get Broadcom interested in the site and interested enough that they actually acquired the site.”
Braud hopes another company will purchase the 1.2 million square-foot plant. Hynix made computer memory chips and was one of the area's largest private employers before closing in 2008.
