Junction City Will Vote On Pot Dispensaries

Residents of Junction City will get to vote on whether to allow the sale of marijuana in their town. The Junction City Council Tuesday voted unanimously to put the issue to voters in November 2016.

Jason Knope is Junction City Administrator.

"During the last election, it was about a 50 / 50 split on the marijuana issue. And the council felt it was very important for the community to be able to weigh in and to make the decision for themselves what they would like to see in their community."

Oregon voters legalized recreational marijuana last November. Governor Kate Brown last month signed a bill allowing medical marijuana dispensaries to sell pot to adults 21 and over starting October 1st. City councils and county boards can opt out with a majority vote. Currently there are no medical marijuana dispensaries in Junction City.
