Lane County Public Health announced a second suspected death related to COVID-19, Friday morning. The 59-year-old Eugene-Springfield man had pre-existing medical conditions and was hospitalized for the virus.
Public health spokesperson Jason Davis said the man died Thursday night due to multiple organ failure from complications they believe are related to COVID-19.
“This is exactly what we’re working to prevent and you heard from our elected officials, really thanking you for doing your part in that and so I know that we have prevented deaths, so you feel good about that, unfortunately we lost another community member," he said.
No new cases of COVID-19 were reported as of Friday morning. The number of positive cases remains at 50. Meanwhile, 22 people have recovered from the virus, 26 people are sick at home, and no individuals are currently in the hospital.
