Refuse plastic straws. Drink from reusable water bottles. Use bamboo utensils instead of plastic ones. These are tips from Lane County to reduce your waste. KLCC’s Deonna Anderson reports.
Lane County is encouraging residents to take a pledge to stop using disposables. Public Information Officer Devon Ashbridge says they’re always looking for ways to encourage people to reduce, reuse and recycle. Now, the county is challenging residents to take their waste-reduction habits even further.
“Most of us are already in the habit of bringing our own shopping bags when we go to the store but eliminating those plastic produce bags instead opting for a washable, reusable mesh version is convenient and helps eliminate plastic as well,” she says.
This weekend, some of Lane County’s Master Recyclers will be giving out prizes to people who take the pledge at the Good Earth Home, Garden & Living Show. Of course, those prizes will assist in reducing your waste like reusable utensils and bottles.
