Lane County Health Officials Say 'Stay The Course' as COVID-19 Cases Plateau

Lane County Public Health

For the second day in a row, Lane County Public Health reports no new cases of COVID-19. The number of cases in the county have plateaued at 48. One person remains hospitalized, 25 are recovering at home and 21 have completely recovered from the virus.

Spokesman Jason Davis says the number of reported cases is only a snapshot of what is happening with the virus in our region. He anticipates the numbers will increase with the broadening of testing criteria.

“Really what we’ve used the testing numbers we’ve announced every day is as a sample size. Knowing that we won’t ever, even with expanded testing, be able to have a 100 percent picture of everything that’s happening in our community disease-wise," said Davis. "We can have a subsect of that population and be able to understand what’s going on in this limited, severe illness category.”

Davis says this plateau is the maintenance phase of the curve. He encourages the community to stay the course and continue to follow physical distancing and hygiene guidelines.
