Lane County Public Health Working to Test Latinx Community Members

Centro Latino Americano

Latinx community members make up 25% of Lane County COVID-19 cases, despite being 9% of the county’s total population. Now, the county is working to test more people.

This week, Lane County Public Health is opening two voluntary testing sites to reach the Latinx population.

Some Latino community members have avoided getting tested due to fears around their immigration status. But Jason Davis with Lane County Health said they only need basic information and a way to contact someone to provide the results.

“There is no requirements of any sort of documentation, citizenship—anything like that,” said Davis. “None of this information is shared with any other agency or entity. It stays within public health and is purely for disease tracking and nothing else.”

The county is also working to set up a testing site in Springfield.

In Eugene, free testing will take place on the following days:

Thursday, May 28: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Centro de Fe Church, 540 Adams St.

Saturday, May 30: 12p.m. to 5 p.m at the Lane Education Service District, 1200 State Highway 99 North.
