A new student production at Lane Community College will focus on bringing issues around suicide out of the shadows. “Lighting the Darkness: Stories of Suicide and Carrying On” is this Friday and Saturday at LCC.
The performance is by the Student Production Association and Curtain Call for All.
Executive director, Bill Ford, has dealt with losing loved ones to suicide and suicide ideation. He says the production’s goal is to destigmatize discussion of the subject.
“Basically trying to start some of the stuff that I wish I had had or things that I know will help me. Most of it is just being able to talk about it a little bit more. There’s this fear that surrounds the subject of suicide,” says Ford. “One of our main beliefs in Curtain Call for All is that we need to learn how to understand that fear so that we can more constructively react to it.”
“Lighting the Darkness” features a collection of three short plays about healing after losing loved ones to suicide. One was written by Ford about his own experiences.
The performances are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm in the Blue Door Theatre on the LCC main campus.
