UPDATE (12:52 p.m. PT) — Coronavirus diagnoses continued to surge in Oregon Sunday, with 190 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19, bringing the state’s total to 6,937 cases. About 20% of all cases of the virus detected since the outbreak reached Oregon in February have come in the past seven days, as the state eases restrictions amid a surge spurred by outbreaks at workplaces and a church.

Though new infections are climbing, the death rate remains steady, with one confirmed COVID-19 death Sunday. That brings the state’s total to 190 deaths.

The Oregon Health Authority detailed the latest death as a 93-year-old woman in Clackamas County who tested positive on June 6 and died June 20 in her residence. She had underlying medical conditions.

The bulk of Sunday’s new diagnoses were in the Portland metro area, with 84 new known cases in Multnomah County, 22 in Washington County and 12 in Clackamas County. There were also 34 in Umatilla County.

Union County health officials reported three new cases, That county now has 258 COVID-19 diagnoses. The bulk are from an outbreak linked with Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Island City, just east of La Grande.

As of Friday, 154 people were hospitalized with suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the state, including 29 who are on ventilators. Coronavirus has led to the hospitalization of 946 people in Oregon over the course of the pandemic.

Clark County at more than 680 confirmed cases

Health officials in Clark County announced Friday that 14 more residents have tested positive for COVID-19.

In total, 685 people have tested positive in Clark County, and 28 people have died.
