Eugene City Councilor Betty Taylor announced Monday she won’t run again in 2020. The 94-year-old shared the news at the start of the evening work session.
“I want to announce my retirement from council, effective in January of 2021, approximately 13 months from now.” Taylor told councilors, city staff, and the public. “And I’m not trying to designate a successor.”
Fellow councilor Mike Clark pointed out that when she finishes her term, Taylor will have served for 24 years—the longest serving councilor in Eugene history. There are already two candidates for Taylor’s ward 2 seat: Kate Davidson and Matt Keating.
