Mayor Highlights Springfield’s Hometown Feel

City of Springfield

SpringfieldMayor Christine Lundberg delivered her State of the City address Monday evening at the Wildish Theater. She focused on the “hometown feel” of the community.

During her speech, Mayor Lundberg recognized the devastating fire that burned down the Swanson Lumber Mill in 2014. But she celebrated the fact that the mill is rebuilding in Springfield. It will re-open later this year:
Lundberg: “The Swanson Group announced that it would not only rebuild the lost facility but upgrade it to include investments of more than 50 million for a new 330 thousand square foot veneer and plywood operation to replace the mill and employ about 190 people in a more automated system.”
Lundberg awarded Swanson Group Business of the Year. The winner of the Spirit of Springfield award is Bob Keefer, Director of Willamalane Parks and Recreation. Lundberg also spoke of continuing work to improve traffic safety. And, they mayor announced plans for a new Veterans Memorial, honoring women vets.
