"My name’s Michael Taylor, and I’m at the Don Dexter Gallery on Willamette Street, and this is a gallery that he’s had going for about fourteen years, and I think he’s had, like a hundred and forty shows. It’s been on for a long time, and I have a set of eleven photographs up here, and I’m really excited about that That’s the first time I’ve ever done that and it’s real new to me."

The Don Dexter Gallery is in the spacious area in the front of his dental office, but it’s open to the public. Come on in to see Michael’s striking Eastern Oregon landscapes as well as a closeup of fighting hummingbirds, all part of Taylor’s focus on “Northwest Travels.”

"Well, because I haven’t really  had a show before, I wasn’t really sure what kind of a theme I should come up with here, so going through my photographs, I have a lot of different things that I can use--that’s why I actually ended up splitting it up into three different groups: Landscapes, Places, and Nature."

Michael grew up in the days of old school film and remembers how he got started in that time before digital exploded on the scene.

"I started photographing when----I had a darkroom when I was fifteen years old--it was in the basement of our farmhouse and I had my dad’s surplus Navy enlarger, and I had duct tape and cardboard, building my little space and that’s where I got involved in it and started to really enjoy what you can do with photographs, so that’s really where it began."

That’s where Michael Taylor’s art journey began; you will love seeing where it is now. Michael’s show runs through June 25. The Don Dexter Gallery Gallery is downtown at 2233 Willamette Street, Suite B. Learn more and see images of Michael Taylor and his work at the Viz City blog on KLCC.org.
