Monday's City Council Meeting Rolls Out E-Scooters and New Speed Limits

City of Eugene

Eugene City Councilors set lower speed limits on residential streets and approved an e-scooter pilot program at their Monday meeting.

The council allotted over an hour of time for the public forum, in which community members predominantly shared concerns about police reform and funding. A work session is planned for next Monday to talk further about the topic.

Councilors heard a presentation on a parks and recreation development fund plan, which has been updated to respond to the economic impacts of COVID.

The council passed ordinances that authorize the city to regulate and give licenses to shared micro-mobility businesses, as well as conduct a pilot e-scooter program of its own.

They also voted to lower speed limits and change signage in residential neighborhoods across Eugene from 25 to 20 miles per hour.
