In October, John Weber will be the next executive director for the University of Oregon’s Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.
Weber was the founding director of the University of California Santa Cruz’s Institute of the Arts and Sciences.
Debbie Williamson-Smith, communications manager for the JSMA, says they are excited to see what changes weber will bring to the museum.
“We are all positive he has a lot of great ideas,” says Williamson-Smith. “His experience in museum education, curatorial projects, academic museums, and public institutions is going to bring a wealth of experience to our community.”
Weber will be replacing retiring director, Jill Hartz, who has worked at the museum since 2008. During her tenure, Williamson-Smith says, more students visited the museum than ever before and they increased their number of objects by more than 3,000.
