No. 3 Oregon falls to Stanford in OT

@OregonFootball Twitter

The No. 3 Ducks suffered their first loss of the season, falling to Stanford 31-24 in overtime Saturday.

Stanford (3-2) controlled the first 30 minutes of the game and had Oregon trailing at the half for the first time this season. But the second half belonged to the Ducks, until the final two minutes.

Oregon entered the third quarter down 17-10 and tied it up at 17 to head to the fourth. With less than 10 minutes left in the final quarter, Mycah Pittman exploded on a 66-yard run before Oregon finally took the lead with an Anthony Brown touchdown.

Stanford evened the score on the final play of the game to send it to overtime and scored on their first possession. Oregon couldn’t match, handing Stanford the win.

As with Oregon’s Week 4 win over Arizona, the penalties added up for Oregon. The Ducks had 10 penalties for 99 yards. Kayvon Thibodeaux, projected to be a top pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, was ejected after a targeting penalty towards the end of the game. The penalty means Thibodeaux is disqualified for the first half of the Ducks’ next game.

Oregon standout CJ Verdell left the game with an apparent ankle injury in the second half. Verdell had 63 yards rushing and one TD for the Ducks.

Up Next:

The Ducks (4-1) have a bye in Week 6. They return to the field for a rare Friday night game, hosting Cal (1-4) at Autzen Stadium Oct. 15.
