Open House For Elliott Research Forest

Oregon Department of State Lands

A public open house about the future of the Elliott State Forest will be held in Roseburg Tuesday evening.

Oregon State University is proposing that a portion of the state forest, near Reedsport, be designated as a research area.

Ken Armstrong, communications manager for Oregon Department of State Lands, says one of the reasons for the meeting is to establish what a research forest would look like.

“That’s one of the questions that we hope to have an answer for in between now and December,” says Armstrong. “What exactly does that look like? What exactly is a research forest? How does that play out with the other values that the State Land Board has established for the forest?”

The plan is to present a proposal to the State Land Board in December.

The Elliott State Forest open house will take place 5:30 to 7 pm at Umpqua Community College.

Representatives from OSU’s Department of Forestry and the DSL will be there to provide information.
