Oregon Country Fair Designated as Oregon Heritage Tradition

Cynthia Wooten

The Oregon Country Fair celebrates its 50th birthday this summer. On Saturday, a celebration will mark the designation of the fair as an Oregon heritage tradition.

The Country Fair is sponsoring the “50 Years of Oregon Country Fair” exhibit at the Lane County History Museum as a gift to the community and those who have supported its run over the years.

Cynthia Wooten is a co-founder of the Country Fair.

“The Oregon Heritage Commission,” Wooten says, “Is going to do a recognition presentation to the Country Fair. And what that means is that they’re designating the fair as an official tradition event. In order to qualify,” she explains, “you have to run for 50 consecutive years, but also reflect the nature and the culture of people in the area.”

Wooten was 23 when the fair was conceived. She says that the exhibit will mostly display the fair’s early years. The Oregon Country Fair runs July 12th-14th in Veneta. The exhibit, “50 Years of Oregon Country Fair” opens Saturday at the Lane County History Museum in Eugene.
