Recent snow in Oregon’s mountains has some die hard skiers eager to hit the slopes.
Mount Bachelor has announced an official “hopening day” for the day after Thanksgiving.
Whether or not there is the requisite amount of snow on the ground, they’ll host a free event with music, hikes, scavenger hunts and photo ops with ski patrol and avalanche dogs.
Hoodoo Ski Area in the central Cascade Range, hasn’t announced an opening day yet.
“The goal is to get to 30 to 36 inches and we can get a snow cat on that and pack it down and get some good coverage.”
This is Leif Williams’ 9th season at Hoodoo. He says impatient skiers shouldn’t come to the mountain yet. But they can do some prep work.
“You know it always helps to get your skis tuned up and get your equipment ready.”
If snowfall continues at current rates, Williams says they’ll be on track to open before mid-December.
