The University of Oregon softball team hit a milestone this week. For the first time in school history, they are the number one team in the country.
The top ranking comes after the Ducks won two in a three-game series against then-number-one UCLA. After the final game Sunday, senior utility player Kailee Cuico told Oregon Sports Network the series showed what the team could do.
Cuico: “We just have to now recognize that and run with that now and be very confident. All these teams are good in the PAC. We play in one of the best conferences. And we can’t take a pitch off, we can’t take an inning off.”
Oregon has only lost one PAC-12 game so far and is 34-5 overall. The team doesn’t play again until this Saturday, when it opens a three-day Civil War series against Oregon State in Corvallis. The Beavers are un-ranked nationally and currently sit in the 6th position in the PAC-12.
