The Oregon Health Authority reported 1,669 new confirmed and presumptive COVID-19 cases Saturday, the state’s largest daily case count since the start of the pandemic. On Friday, officials said with several county health departments closed and not reporting numbers on Thanksgiving, they anticipated Saturday’s numbers would be “unusually high.”

The new cases reported Saturday include 64 in Deschutes County, 49 in Lane County, 17 in Benton County, 10 in Douglas County, and 3 in Lincoln County. There  have been 72,506 coronavirus cases in Oregon, and with the announcement of 11 new deaths on Saturday, the death toll stands at 896.

The latest deaths include a 62-year-old woman in Douglas County, a 62-year-old man in Lane County, and an 87-year-old man in Deschutes County.

The number of COVID-19 related hospitalizations also continues to spike with 529 people hospitalized — a 209% increase since the start of the month.
