Oregon State University is in Corvallis, Oregon.

Oregon State University’s Board of Trustees Friday is expected to announce the university’s new president.

The candidate the board is considering will be publicly introduced during a special board meeting 10 a.m. Friday at OSU’s Memorial Union Horizon Room in Corvallis. The meeting is open to the public.

If appointed, that candidate will start the job on July 1, taking the place of current President Ed Ray.

Ray announced earlier this year that he would be stepping down as president after 17 years in the position and joining OSU’s teaching faculty. He is Oregon’s longest-serving current public university president.

Action by the board at Friday’s meeting will conclude a national presidential search that began this past spring.

“Oregon State’s next president is positioned to lead a distinctive university that enjoys tremendous momentum and provides transformative impact in Oregon, nationally and globally,” Rani Borkar, chair of OSU’s Board of Trustees, said in a news release. “OSU’s next president will continue to foster a university community that prioritizes diversity and inclusive excellence.”
