Public Invited to Help Choose Street Names

City of Eugene

The City of Eugene is looking for community input to choose from 12 finalistsfor street names in its new Downtown Riverfront neighborhood.

Community members offered more than 11-hundred ideas and city staff has whittled it down to 12. The city asked for names that fall into one of three categories: Community/ Culture, Ecology / River, or Industry / Energy.

Name ideas include: Track Town, to recognize Eugene’s reputation for Track & Field. Wiley Griffin, the name of one of the first known African American residents of Eugene; Megawatt, in reference to the property’s history as home to Eugene Water and Electric Board’s headquarters; and the Kalapua word for Camas, Andlip.

There are three streets yet to be named. People have until October 18th to help narrow down the options to 6. Then it’s up to Eugene Mayor Lucy Vinis to make the final decision.
