The threat of wildfire has led to new restrictions on the Siuslaw National Forest, which stretches along the Oregon Coast Range between Reedsport and Tillamook.
The Forest Service has banned campfires except for those in developed campgrounds and picnic areas. There’s also a ban on motorized vehicles except on designated trails and roads.
Spokesperson Lisa Romano said with conditions so dry, the goal is to minimize the potential for human-caused fires.
“These restrictions can help us avoid the risk of even small fires that can get away from us, which would stretch the already really-stretched fire fighting resources in this region," she said.
Romano said all campfires are banned in the Mary’s Peak campground due to its distance from fire response units. Fires will be allowed for sand camping at the Oregon Dunes and Sand Lake recreation areas.
