Students Protest Sexual Assault At University of Oregon

Rachael McDonald

Students occupied the administration building on the University of Oregon campus today [Thursday]. They were protesting the recent alleged sexual assault of a young woman by 3 members of the men's basketball team.

Eugene Police released a report this week on their investigation of Damyean Dotson, Dominic Artis and Brandon Austin. The three are accused of sexually assaulting a young woman multiple times in early March.
Many people at the rally said the University does not support victims of sexual assault and shields perpetrators-- especially athletes. McKinzie Boyer is a junior at U of O.

Boyer: "This is supposed to be a safe campus. We pay to go to school here. These students get scholarships and then they just show up they go to parties. The girl obviously did not give a yes. As soon as she takes a drink she cannot give consent."

The large group of students and faculty marched into Johnson Hall and demanded answers. Robin Holmes, Vice President for Student Affairs told them she can't give out information because of federal privacy laws. Protesters remained inside Johnson Hall chanting for nearly an hour.

Protesters say they'll be back again Friday at noon. A university spokeswoman says there are internal conduct processes.
