The Labor Day weekend travel holiday will see 35 million motorists taking to the highways…5 million of those hitting the West Coast.
AAA spokesman Matthew Conde says Oregon destinations that’ll see lots of traffic include Bend, Crater Lake, Ashland, and the coast.
And while the average cost of gas is higher in Oregon than many other states – $3.24 a gallon versus the national average of $2.84 – Conde says local prices for Eugene and neighboring areas are among the cheapest.
“The greater Eugene area, in Lane, Linn, and Benton County, we’re seeing about $3.16 a gallon, and we would anticipate that it’ll probably stay fairly close to that number. It may track a couple cents higher.”
Conde says people can track gas prices online at their website, AAA.com.
