Survey Examines Need for Public Transportation Between Florence & Eugene

Wikipedia

Lane County residents have long spoken about the need for public transportation between Eugene and Florence.

An online survey has moved “the talk” one step closer to reality.

Right now, options for traveling between the 2 cities are pretty limited. There’s your car, if you have one. There’s also a couple of private choices.

Now, the Oregon Department of Transportation is funding a feasibility study about the need for public transportation in that corridor.

Kelly Clarke is the Senior Transportation Planner with the Lane Council of Governments. She says a big part of the project is understanding how other communities, in areas like this one, execute similar services.

Clarke: “There are some coast to valley services that are available. I think the Benton County-Lincoln County is a good one. So, there are some examples that we’re trying to emulate and understand how they work and what are the lessons learned that we can try and implement here.”

Clarke says they’ve extended the survey through September 28th. She hopes that by early November, they’ll start looking at funding options.
