Young people in Eugene Wednesday filed a federal climate lawsuit against the U.S. Government and the President. KLCC's Rachael McDonald spoke with one plaintiff who is part of the lawsuit sponsored by the organization Our Children's Trust.
Alex Loznak is 18. He lives near Roseburg on a farm that has been in his family for more than 150 years. Loznak says he's worried about what will happen to the farm in the next 150 years because of climate change.
Loznak: "When I was 11 years old my grandmother took me knocking on doors for the Obama campaign. And I was really inspired when Obama said that this would be the moment when the rise of the sea level would begin to slow. And I'm hopeful that by suing and by demanding action from our federal government that maybe we can actually start to slow the rise of the seas."
Loznak says he's concerned about how the drought has fed huge fast-moving wildfires near his home. The federal lawsuit challenges the government's support of fossil fuels. And it aims to stop the proposed Jordan Cove Liquefied Natural Gas Export Terminal in Coos Bay.
