Two Willamette Valley transit agencies are restoring most of the service that was cut this year because of the coronavirus.
As of Wednesday, Albany Transit had restored most of the routesand service it had before the pandemic.
And starting next Monday, the Cherriots bus system in Salem will be running 95 percent of the service it offered before the virus. At one point in late March, while battling a high rate of driver absences, Cherriots shut down its service entirely for six service days.
Restoring the service to this level is "huge," wrote Cherriots board president Ian Davidson on Twitter.
Still, the pandemic caused the agency to indefinitely put on hold plans to begin service on Sundays, something it's never offered before.
More service is resuming in Eugene and Springfield next week, but a spokesperson for L-T-D says the agency will still be operating just two-thirds of the service it offered pre-COVID.
