Two Finalists for UCC President Tour The School

Umpqua Community College

Umpqua Community College is closer to finding a president. Two finalists for the job visited the Roseburg campus this week.
The school has been led by interim presidents since June 2015

The finalists are Dr. Stephen Nacco, who comes from Union County College in New Jersey, and Dr. Debra Thatcher of SUNY Cobleskill in New York. UCC spokeswoman Anne Marie Levis says the college is looking forward to having stable leadership.
Levis: “Someone that can really start moving ahead some of the initiatives that have been a little bit put on hold.”
It’s been 6 and a half months since a shooter killed 9 people and himself during the first week of fall classes at U.C.C. Levis says the school is returning to a sense of normalcy.
Levis: “The focus is back on education. We’re looking forward to graduation, which is a really wonderful celebration.”
The board of education will meet soon to decide who will become the new UCC president.
