Two Juveniles Arrested After Shooting at Lane County Fair

Lane Events Center/ Lane County Fair

Eugene Police have released additional details about Saturday’s shooting at the Lane County Fair.

In a release, EPD says police responded to the fairgrounds for what was initially reported as an “active shooter” at around 4:00 p.m. Saturday. Responders determined this was not an active shooter event, but rather a single shot fired as a result of “a disturbance” after a man and two juveniles aged 14 and 16 were involved in a fight.

According to police, the 16-year-old displayed a handgun and threatened the man. A citizen, who attempted to intervene, was then assaulted by several friends of the juveniles who were involved in the original physical altercation.

Police say when the boy was confronted by security, he fired his gun, and the bullet struck an uninvolved woman in the arm. The 16-year-old has been charged with Assault in the Second Degree with a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. The 14-year-old has been charged with Tampering with Evidence and Disorderly Conduct. Both were taken to the Serbu Juvenile Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing. The Eugene Police Department would like to speak with any members of the community who witnessed the altercation and shooting. Detectives can be reached at 541-682-5111.
