Two KLCC Reporters Win NAJA Awards

KLCC reporters Karen Richards and Brian Bull have been recognized with 2 awards each by the Native American Journalists Association, NAJA.

Karen won 1st Place in Associate Division III for Radio/ Podcast - Best Feature Story for  Ancient Languages Being Nudged Awake, and 3rd Place in the same category for Tribal Business on Cusp of Change.

In Professional Division III, Brian won 3rd place for Radio/ Podcast – Best Feature Story for For Two Spirits, An Opportunity To Gain Acceptance Across Indian Country

These  three stories were produced as part of KLCC’s Native Voices of Oregon year long series.  Funded by the University of Oregon Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics, the stories coincide with the Center's 2017-2019 Theme of Inquiry: Borders, Migration and Belonging.  

Brian also won 2nd place for Radio / Podcast – Best News Story for Lowly Lamprey’s Numbers Focus of Tribes, Conservation Groups.

Rachael McDonald is KLCC’s host for All Things Considered on weekday afternoons. She also is the editor of the KLCC Extra, the daily digital newspaper. Rachael has a BA in English from the University of Oregon. She started out in public radio as a newsroom volunteer at KLCC in 2000.
