The unofficial motto of the United States Postal Service says “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” But after last week’s major winter storm, letter carriers are still playing catch up in some hard hit areas.
Parcel delivery has been especially impacted for some South Eugene routes where roads are still impassable. Carriers are making their way through neighborhoods with steep, unplowed streets.
Outposts in McKenzie River and Oakridge had delays in service, but were fully caught up by Saturday. Some rural residents had their street boxes destroyed by plows and are picking up their mail at their local post offices.
The Postal Service says residents can help their local letter carriers fulfill their motto by making sure there is a clear, safe, route to mailboxes.
