Donations poured in during a community run drive for the Eugene 4J School District, last week. Food, cleaning supplies, and basic hygiene items were collected, which all went to students and their families. Another drive is set for Friday.
Eugene 4J School Board Chair and small business owner, Anne Marie Levis says it was heartening to see unity during the "Stuff the Truck" event, especially at a time when COVID-19 layoffs have hit hard. She says community members, local businesses, and even teachers gave during the event.
"We had one teacher come and give me a $20 bill and say 'I don’t have much, but I see what the need is with my students, and I’m just so thrilled to be able to do something.'"
Donations were sent to the Lane Education Service District where they were able to put together 30 boxes full of food and supplies for families. Overall she says, Lane ESD was able to assist about 800 families. The drive also accepted monetary donations for the Eugene Education Foundation.
This time around on Friday, April 24, they're extending aid to nearby Springfield and Bethel school districts. They're accepting similar donations of non-perishable foods, hygiene supplies, and monetary donations including gift cards.
"We've brought together the three school districts to raise money as well as get donations for all the school districts because we're all facing the same things," Levis says.
The "Stuff the Truck"event is also partnering with15th Night to help unhoused students who are in need of tents and sleeping bags. Donations can be dropped off from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the 4J District office located at 200 North Monroe in Eugene.

- Cleaning supplies, laundry soap, and sponges
- Diapers, pull-ups, and wipes
- Toiletries, toilet paper
- Bleach
- Non-perishable food
- (soup peanut butter, flour, and masa (tortilla flour), stews, beans, canned vegetables, maseca)
- Top Ramen
- Feminine products
- Toothbrushes
- Toothpaste
- Dog food
- School Supplies
