A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Central and South Willamette Valley, as well as the central Oregon coast until 7 pm Saturday. That advisory is extended until 10 pm Saturday for Central Douglas County and Sunday morning at 7 am for Central Oregon.
The strong, cold, wet system will bring snow to the region, with total snow accumulations ranging between a dusting to 2 inches for valley areas Saturday. Higher amounts are possible, especially in hills and mountains above 500 feet in elevation. The cold pattern is expected to continue through this next week, with another major storm possible Sunday night into Tuesday.
Drivers should expect winter driving conditions this weekend in many locations, including along I-5 and throughout Cascade mountain passes.
Officials caution that if travel is necessary, expect delays and be prepared for a long trip.
Traveler tips include:
* Have chains and know how to use them
* Have warm clothes, gloves, blankets, etc.
* Drive to the conditions - that means slow down
* Increase following distance to maneuver and stop
* Expect a slow trip
For the latest road conditions, motorists can monitor cameras and chain conditions at Tripcheck or call 5-1-1.
