The Number 3 University of Oregon women’s basketball team marches to the PAC-12 tournament Friday. Team star Sabrina Ionesco’s basketball IQ resembles another great, Bev Smith. Smith, a two-time All-American, was so successful the U of O retired her number 24, in 1982. Now that number is on another player’s uniform, forward Ruthy Hebard.

The City Club’s unique “Gifts to the City” event is their annual holiday program. Community members graciously offer their virtual “gifts” to the city. These gifts may be serious, offbeat, ironic, amusing, inspiring, entertaining, and/or challenging. The speakers from various walks of life explain what they would give if they had the power to do so, and why they are making the gift.

The City of Eugene announced Friday it will move forward to buy Civic Stadium from the 4-J School District and sell it to a non-profit group committed to its restoration. According to the city manager’s office, Eugene Civic Alliance met the deadline to provide “assurances” that the $4.1 million dollars needed to purchase the defunct stadium has been raised.

7-year old Leo Rickard, a first grader at The Village School,   represented the generosity required by many when he presented his donation of 84 dollars to the cause.
