As wildfire season gets underway, Native American tribes in Oregon are cautiously preparing under the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The U.S. Department of Justice will grant close to $100 million to tribal governments across the country to support Native American crime victims. The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians and the Klamath Tribes obtained a combined total of over $1 million.

All nine Oregon tribes have Cultural Resources departments. Some have archaeologists on staff, others have museums or archives. In recent years, the number of donations of cultural artifacts is soaring. Here's the next installment of our “Native Oregon Voices” series.
