Oregon's youngest county is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. The county is hosting multiple events and contests to commemorate the occasion.

A Sisters woman has been fined $140,000 and faces additional charges for misleading at least a dozen people to invest $700,000 in her business. Rebecca Castle, also known as Rebecca Groins allegedly spent investor's money on jewelry, spa services, and made purchases for her children and boyfriend. The Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services claims the business she was representing either did not exist or was financially unsuccessful. Jake Sunderland is a spokesman for the OCBS.

Natural Gas Fuels Study

A Deschutes County truck is being used in a natural gas refueling study. The truck will be plugged in to a residential gas line to refuel every night.

The technology was developed by the OSU Cascade campus in Bend. The Deschutes County truck has a bi-fuel system allowing it to use natural gas and gasoline. Chris Doty is Deschutes County Public Works Director.

Whooping Cough is on the rise in Oregon. Deschutes County health officials report more than 20 cases since the first of the year. Lane County has confirmed nine.

The bacterial infection, Pertussis, is also known as whooping cough. The Chinese named it the "hundred day cough"—because of the severe spells it elicits.

According to the World Health Organization, 195,000 children die from the disease each year. Whooping cough is easily spread through coughs and sneezes.
