While crews continue to fight the Holiday Farm Fire and others around the state, evacuation notices for the region are being downgraded.  Officials are warning evacuees to be careful coming home.

In Eugene and Springfield, many grassroots efforts have formed to help those affected by the Holiday Farm Fire. Devon Ashbridge with the Lane County Emergency Operations Center said it’s been incredible to see the generosity. She noted one of the best ways to help is by donating money through United Way of Lane County or the Red Cross

Spring Valley Assisted Living

Lane County Public Health reported another staff person at a residential care facility has tested positive for COVID-19. The new case prompted immediate testing of all residents at Spring Valley Assisted Living, some of whom have memory loss. The Springfield facility is in the process of testing staff.

Lane County to Open Applications for Rent Assistance

Lane County announced a second round of applications for rent assistance will become available at 9AM Wednesday morning and be open for one week.

Lane County renters who have lost income or have had health effects related to COVID-19 could be eligible for some help. Wednesday morning, applications for rent assistance will be available on the county's website.

Howard Buford Recreation Area, including the Mount Pisgah Arboretum and all surrounding trails, are closed to the public at least through Monday, following a wildfire last week that burned around 50 acres and saw hikers evacuated from the park.

Devon Ashbridge with Lane County says fire crews from the Oregon Department of Forestry – South Cascades continue to work in the park. Officials will be removing all heat and hazards caused by the fire before visitors are allowed to return to the park.

Under heavy police presence, about 15 homeless campers were evicted from the county-owned Butterfly lot in downtown Eugene Wednesday afternoon. The county cited health and safety issues as the reason for the abrupt action.

Mt Pisgah Arboretum

The Lane County Board of Commissioners Tuesday approved a ban on smoking and tobacco use in all the county’s parks.

The ordinance includes an exception for ceremonial tobacco use by members of Native American tribes.

Eugene might not construct its City Hall on the lot of the former building. It’s exploring other options, including on a county-owned property. The City and Lane County have teamed up to explore what could end up as a land swap.

Landslides Close Lane and Douglas County Roads

Heavy rain in Lane County has increased the threat of landslides on roadways. Part of North Fork Siuslaw Road is closed due to soil instability. A slide closed Big Creek Road early this week; it re-opened Wednesday.

Archie Knowles Campground, located 18 miles east of Florence, has been closed for 5 years. Starting with a groundbreaking ceremony tomorrow, work will begin immediately to rehabilitate the site.

Thursday is the last day of school in Springfield and this week the school board finalized a few big decisions about next year.
