For many Olympic track and field athletes, the next stop after Tokyo will be Eugene. The Prefontaine Classic is August 20th and 21st at Hayward Field.

An Oregon native who set a shot put world record at the Olympic Trials is headed to Tokyo. Ryan Crouser competed in Eugene in high school, and said he appreciates having grown up in a place that knows track and field.

The World Athletics Championships will come to the United States for the first time in 2022. With just under a year until the 10-day competition at Hayward Field in Eugene, preparations are speeding up.

On Tuesday, the University of Oregon (UO) announced a $500 million gift for its Knight Campus. The contribution comes from Phil and Penny Knight.

The Track and Field Olympic Trials in Eugene were delayed Sunday due to excessive heat, after heptathlete Taliyah Brooks fainted before the javelin throw.

 

Yet neither heat nor the delay stopped athletes from having outstanding performances.

Crowds at Sunday’s Olympic Track & Field Trials in Eugene got to see Rudy Winkler break an American record in the hammer throw. Winkler threw 82.71 meters, beating the previous record of 82.52 set by Lance Deal in 1996.

The USA Track & Field Olympic Trials kick off Friday (6/18) at Hayward Field in Eugene. And while the crowd’s attention will focus on the events, authorities hope some will help keep an eye out for trouble.

Nine women and 15 men from the University of Oregon qualified for next week’s NCAA Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field. The meet, which runs June 9th to 12th will be the first at the new stadium to invite ticketed fans.

TrackTown USA has announced that recent changes to Oregon health regulations means spectators will be able to watch the Olympic Trials in person at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. The trials are scheduled for June 18-27.

With no fans at sporting events, the past year has been lean for hotels and restaurants near the University of Oregon. Businesses expect a boost from two big track and field meets in June, but there are also challenges.

TrackTown USA has news for spectators of this summer’s U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene. CEO Michael Reilly said in a statement Thursday that based on Hayward Field’s capacity and current health protocols, they cannot honor the number of tickets already sold.

Friday and Saturday’s Hayward Premiere meet featured some Oregon wins, plenty of PR’s, and some wide-eyed expressions of awe from visiting athletes and guests as they took in the new stadium for the first time.

The new Hayward Field has been ready and set for quite a while; now, it’s nearly “go” time. The University of Oregon announced today (Wednesday) the venue will host its first invitational meet, the Hayward Premiere, on April 2nd and 3rd.

Track fans, take note: A modified U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials is in the works. USA Track and Field announced an updated competition schedule today. The 10-day event, to be held at the new Hayward Field in Eugene, is slated to run June 18th through the 27th.

For anyone ready to put something on their calendar for spring, the Eugene Marathon, as well as its half marathon, 5K, and kids’ Duck Dash, has opened registration. They hope to hold an in-person event ending on the finish line at Hayward Field.

The world’s top athletes will not experience Eugene’s new Hayward Field this year. The Diamond League announced today (Friday) the 2020 Prefontaine Classic has been cancelled.

An October 4th Prefontaine Classic will conditionally be the first event at a newly-renovated Hayward Field, since the COVID-19 pandemic caused cancellations and postponements at the U of O venue.

Today (Tuesday), USA Track and Field announced the dates of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for the Tokyo Olympics, which were postponed due to COVID-19. Eugene’s new Hayward Field will host the country’s top athletes June 18th through the 27th, 2021.

The Track and Field World Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene will happen a little less than a year later than planned. Oregon21 has announced, along with a name change to Oregon22, the international track and field event will take place July 15th to 24th, 2022.
