Downtown Eugene to Host 9th Annual Sunday Streets

The City of Eugene will host the 9th annual Sunday Streets event this weekend in downtown Eugene. People are encouraged to come out and walk, ridem and roll in a strip of downtown blocks that are completely closed off from car traffic.

Eugene's Kesey Square will be filled with the sound of brass this Friday as local music group Power of Tower plays for the July 6 First Friday ArtWalk.

The band’s name is an inversion of popular funk-rock group Tower of Power, and is a tribute band comprised of local Pacific Northwest musicians.

The Lane Arts Council is featuring the group to continue the City of Eugene’s initiative of bringing public music to the community to energize downtown.

The Eugene City Council voted 5 to 1 Wednesday to make the name “Kesey Square” official.

Eugene Mayor Lucy Vinis has formed an ad hoc committee to look into renaming downtown’s Broadway Plaza. The gathering place at the corner of Broadway and Willamette Streets is commonly referred to as Kesey Square.
