The Milepost 97 fire near Canyonville, is now 45% contained due to favorable weather conditions and fire crews working around the clock.

With hotter, drier weather arriving this weekend, fire crews in Douglas County are making progress on the Milepost 97 fire. The blaze is one mile south of Canyonville.

The Milepost 97 fire, near Canyonville, has grown to more than 12,588 acres. As of Wednesday morning, it was 25% contained.

UPDATED 8:30 A.M. Tuesday: the Milepost 97 fire near Canyonville has grown to more than 12,336 acres. As of Tuesday morning, it was 15 percent contained.

Douglas County residents heard from fire officials battling the Milepost 97 fire at a community meeting at Glendale High School on Sunday night. Attendees were briefed on the progress that’s been made as well as the next plan of attack to bring the more than 11-thousand-acre blaze under control.

Strong winds, high temperatures, and low humidity contributed to another active day for the Milepost 97 fire near Canyonville on Saturday.

The Douglas County Sherriff's Office, in conjunction with fire managers, has upgraded the earlier evacuation orders from Level 1, "BE READY", to Level 2 "GET SET" evacuation notices for all residences on the west side of the freeway between Interstate mileposts 88-83. This includes:

The Milepost 97 fire near Canyonville continues to grow, and as of Saturday morning had burned just under 9,000 acres.

A fire outside Canyonville called the Milepost 97 Fire has now grown from 80 to 6,000 acres since the last official report.
