Larissa FastHorse is a prolific Native American playwright whose works are produced throughout the country. But when some theaters complained they didn’t have Native American actors available, she wrote “The Thanksgiving Play” as a spoof for white actors.

The production at Oregon Contemporary Theatre features four outstanding actors and fast-paced direction by Kirk Boyd. Some of the lines are funny, and the action is frenetic, but the characters are really caricatures, who don’t inspire much empathy. They’re just too silly to make us care.

For some people, the holiday dinner table serves as the lectern for political debate. For others, it’s just a place to catch up. As KLCC’s Deonna Anderson reports, an Oregon agency wants families to discuss their health histories on Thanksgiving.

Northwest travelers should expect airports, roads, bus and train stations to be crowded this week. It’s projected to be the busiest Thanksgiving travel season in seven years. Marie Dodds is with Triple-A Oregon. She says the improving economy has an influence.

The annual Whitaker Dinner is trying to reduce its material waste, and has taken a big step towards doing so through reusable silverware.

The Lane County Master Recycler program came up with the idea of acquiring metal utensils about 3 years  ago and finally reached their goal last month. 3,000 forks, 1,500 knives and 1,200 spoons have been collected to be used by the more than 2,000 people who attend the banquet. Coordinator Kelly Bell is glad to have their own set after relying on others for so long.
