The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested a student this week for writing threats on a bathroom wall at South Umpqua High School. As KLCC’s Deonna Anderson reports, the student was charged with a Class A misdemeanor.
The first degree disorderly conduct charge is punishable by up to one year in jail. The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging parents to talk with their children about the consequences of these types of crimes.

“It may be intended as a joke. It may be intended as just graffiti. However, making a threat against people or some other place such as a school or a workplace is against Oregon law and again, we will hold those people accountable,” he says. “And so best thing to do is don’t do it in the first place.”
This is the second threat discovered at the school in the last week. O’Dell says they take these instances very seriously and urges people to report similar threats promptly.
