Linn County Sheriff Looking For Possible Arsonist

The Linn County Sheriff’s office is investigating a series of small fires that started around 2:30 Monday morning in the Sweet Home and Brownsville area.

Crews responded to eight different fires which Sheriff Jim Yon described as “suspicious.” All of the fires occurred within a two-hour period. Yon did not report any injuries or damage as a result of the fires.

Police say they’re looking for a small white or silver 1990's Nissan pick-up with a black canopy that was spotted in the area. People with information in the case are asked to call 541-812-2260.

The investigation comes as many Oregon communities are on edge about possible arsonists during periods of high fire danger. Although some fires across Oregon this month are suspected to be arson, Sheriff Yon was one of several law enforcement officials last week to urge residents to stop spreading rumors that the fires were the result of a coordinated, politically-motivated attack.
