Camp Plans to Continue Operation Despite Lodge Fire

A 60 year-old camp’s main lodge burned down last Friday near Fern Ridge Lake. Camp Lutherwood, which hosts schools and youth groups year round, is working hard to rebuild after a tragic electrical fire.

Executive Director Andrea Schofield is hopeful about future camp operations. She says Lutherwood has no plans to turn campers away.

“So much of what we do at Camp Lutherwood is outside,” says Schofield, “It’s to be outside. It’s to learn to be in nature and to have a campfire around a fire ring and to sing and to play and to be with people. And you can do that outside. Even without the lodge.”

Lutherwood has seen record numbers of campers since March and wants to keep them coming for the summer.
