Some Oregon wildfire victims will move into temporary housing units supplied by FEMA.
The federal agency says it’s building a site in Mill City that can host up to 16 temporary housing units. That’s in the area that was hard hit by the Beachie Creek Fire in September. FEMA has also built similar housing for 47 families in Jackson County.
After the fires, the state of Oregon said more than 2,000 people were in need of shelter due to wildfires. That number dropped by half by mid-December, as some people found temporary or permanent housing on their own.
FEMA says the temporary housing will be available to families until March of 2022. That would be 18 months from the date of the disaster declaration.
