Crews Contain Mehl Creek Fire Near Elkton

The Mehl Creek Fire, burning southwest of Elkton, is about 50 percent contained as of Wednesday morning.

According to the Douglas Forest Protective Association, 115 firefighters, four water tenders, and two bulldozers were assigned to the incident.

Crews completed construction of a fire line around the perimeter Wednesday afternoon. Additional fire lines will be built by hand in areas where unburned fuel remains between lines and the edge of the fire.

No evacuations have been issued and no homes are currently threatened.

The cause of the Mehl Creek Fire is under investigation.
