A Redmond-based concrete company has been barred from any public works contracts for the next three years. The company failed to pay a group of employees a prevailing wage.
In addition to being ineligible to accept public works contracts, Hard Rock Concrete must pay more than $13,000 in civil penalties. The Oregon Department of Labor and Industries found the company failed to pay seven contractors more than $8,000 on a public project in Jackson County. Oregon BOLI Commissioner Brad Avakian says barring a company from public works contracts is a big hit for construction companies.
Avakian: "You're talking about the building of roads, and the repairing of bridges. This is a significant amount of work for some businesses."
Avakian says in the last few years, BOLI has paid very close attention to the construction industry to make sure contractors are all on a level playing field to compete for contracts. Hard Rock Concrete joins 90 other firms ineligible to work on public projects in Oregon due to wage violations.
