If all 180 square feet of her home could be covered in purple, Alice Gentry would be thrilled. But the tiny home isn’t just for her. Her dog Sissy is there too.

Eugene’s Emerald village tiny house community is holding an open house for newly finished homes Friday.

In March Gentry moved into Emerald Village, a community of 22 tiny homes ranging from 160-300 square feet in Northwest Eugene. The village will commemorate the completion of 14 of their 22 homes at the open house.

Gentry was 64 when she found herself homeless, and she was told she’d be a perfect candidate for Emerald Village.

“It’s hard to explain" Gentry says. "Unless you’ve lived it, unless you’ve had to go through it, you don’t know what it’s like to suddenly find yourself with no bathroom, no electricity, no way to cook. We’ve got all that here.”

Monthly living costs at the village range from $250-350 dollars per month, and is supported by volunteer labor, donations and grants. The open house will take place a 2pm.
