Eugene-based company Blue Lotus Chai won a 2019 Silver Sofi award from the Specialty Food Association. The international award is considered the “Oscars of Artisan Foods.”

Walking through the door, the first thing that hits you is the smell of cinnamon, clove and cardamom. Sitting down to talk, Barabara Cameron, who founded the company in 2010, and her husband Stephan offer a cup of fresh-brewed chai.

Blue Lotus Chai sells nationwide and will be expanding to the UK and Europe. They have also been the top chai seller on Amazon for the last year.

“It’s just mindboggling really. We’re very pleased and we’re really proud and humbled,” said Cameron.

The company’s flagship product, Traditional Marsala Chai competed against all tea and beat out a submission from India. When the award arrived earlier this week, everyone in the office took a turn holding it.
