The Oregon Liquor Control Commission says it will continue to allow retailers to refuse empty cans and bottles until at least the end of April.
OLCC spokesman Mark Pettinger said grocery stores have better things to worry about now. Many stores have stepped up their cleaning protocols and are dealing with unprecedented demand thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. “We continue to feel that the suspension of the Bottle Bill redemption requirement for redeemable beverage containers will assist grocers in their ability to get their work done,” he said.
Oregonians can still return their empties at one of dozens of bottle redemption centers around the state. They’re open seven days a week, but with limited hours.
